This game can be used to work on learning good practices for any activity you do as a group. The topic slips need to be made in advance, but can be re-used to reiterate ideas and help remember how to be a Navigator.
This is a great game to start a meeting with. It can take just a few minutes as a way to break the ice and get kids into the Navigator mindset. Depending on what topics you put in the topic jars it can really help reinforce ideas you want to instill in your group.
Make a compass point cube
Get jars or any type of container and label each MIND, BODY, PLANET, FREEDOM, and the other categories you choose
Get strips of paper or use tongue depressors and start writing ideas you want the group to have as part of their basic knowledge. This can be basic information about navigators; special instructions for an upcoming event; best practices for hiking; camping rules; meeting rules; the Moral Compass; For example:
Mind
Body
Planet
Freedom
Other categories
These topic slips can be updated and added to as needed.
At the start of a meeting pass the dice to one kid and let them roll. Whatever it lands on they pick a slip from that jar and respond to the prompt. The rest of the group can add to their response with additions or corrections as needed. This can either be one kid at each meeting or you can go around the circle depending on how much time you want to use.
Adjust the topic slips as needed.
