This activity can be conducted in a classroom or schoolyard. Do a lesson on how ecosystems are connected.
Have the Navigators form a circle and draw straws. The Navigator who draws the shortest straw becomes “the Mind Reader” while all of the remaining Navigators will represent “the Planet”.
As we know everything on our planet is connected. Our actions create reactions and cause ripple effects. The Planet group will create a series of movements starting with one “ripple maker”. The Mind Reader’s task is to figure out where the changes originate so that we can protect our Planet.
The Mind Reader leaves the circle (Out of eyesight and earshot of the group). The Planet, = all remaining Navigators in the circle will then choose “A Ripplemaker” to perform a series of gestures using only body movements, which the whole “Planet Group” will mirror. (They must be discrete without bringing attention to the Ripplemaker).
The Mind Reader will then return to the circle and try to figure out who is the Ripplemaker. Once the Mind Reader correctly identifies the Ripplemaker they will join, the Planet Group and another “Mind Reader” will be chosen to leave the circle. A different Ripplemaker will be chosen to initiate a new set of body movements for the group to follow discretely.
The Mind Reader will have three tries to figure out who the Ripplemaker is.
